Need some help? Following are some questions frequently asked by our customers with the answers.

Determining Value

Q: How is payment of my items determined?
A: Payment is based on gold content (karat), weight, and the price of gold (melt value).

Q: I paid £500 for my ring. I should expect to get £500 from Cash4Gold, right?
A: Retail stores mark up jewellery 5, 10 and even 20 times or more. Cash4Gold pays for the “melt value” of your jewellery – that is, the value of the actual amount of precious metals contained in the items. Craftsmanship is not a consideration when assessing value of your gold.

Q: The insurance company appraised my jewellery for £500, so I should receive £500 from Cash4Gold, right?
A: Insurance companies will appraise your jewellery based on “retail replacement value.” In other words, what will it cost to replace your jewellery if it is lost or stolen? Therefore, these appraisals do not consider the value of the gold itself and have nothing to do with the payment you should expect from Cash4Gold.

Q: What testing methods are used to determine purity of gold?
A: Upon receiving your gold, Cash4Gold testers will first look for a stamp on the jewellery made by the manufacturer indicating the karat. Testers then have two testing methods (acid/scratch test, electronic tester) to verify the gold purity of your items.

General

Q: I put in a request for a Jewellery Return Pack. When can I expect to receive it?
A: Jewellery Return Packs will go out same day or the next business day, depending on when the request was put in. Speed is determined by the speed of mail, but Packs are often received in as little as three days. Allow for up to 7 to 10 days.

Q: I sent my Jewellery Return Pack today. When can I expect to receive payment?
A: You will need to account for the time it takes for your Pack to reach Cash4Gold and then for the amount of time it takes for your cheque to go from Cash4Gold to your home. Once received, most Packs are processed the same day. Due to inconsistencies in mail times, it should take a total of 10-14 days for you to receive payment.

Q: Do you pay for Gem Stones?
A: We do not pay for gem stones. We recommend that you remove any gemstones prior to sending your Jewellery Return Pack. We do pay wholesale price for all diamonds received and will gladly accept them.

Q: What kind of gold or jewellery will you accept?
A: If you believe there is gold in your jewellery, we will accept it. Gold is found in many household electronics, but we ask that you extract the gold first, without submitting the rest of the items.

Q: Is the gold pack free?
A: Yes! Also shipping and insurance are prepaid up to £500. If you wish to insure your pack for additional value, the Royal Mail Post office can handle all requests.

Q: I have fine jewellery and would like some extra security in terms of packaging. Must I use my own packaging or will you supply me with extra packaging materials?
A: Our standard Jewellery Return Pack comes with a very secure and safe bag. While these bags will generally be enough for any item you wish to send us, if you have any concerns, please call customer service anytime at 0800 064 1231 and we can assist you in determining if you need additional packaging materials. Cash4Gold may be able to offer more for your fine jewellery items. Please visit this page for more information.

Q: How will I know when you’ve received my gold/jewellery?
A: You can track the status 24×7 by using our Track your Pack feature. This provides instant access to our online database. To get started enter your C4G KitID on the top right corner in the ‘Track Your Pack’ box.

Q: What can I do if I am not satisfied with the amount I have been paid?
A: If you are unhappy with your payment, contact customer service by phone (0800 064 1231) or by email (info.UK@cash4gold.com) within 12 days of the date on the cheque to request your items be returned. Once we have your cheque, we will return your gold or jewellery, no questions asked. In some cases, we may be able to offer more for your items based upon a resale value. Please visit this page for more information.

Q: Some of my old gold jewellery has diamonds, or semi-precious stones, in the settings. Do I try to remove them before sending to you, or do you return them to me?
A: Any jewellery containing diamonds will be credited back to your account and paid for on your settlement sheet. We do not purchase gems or semi-precious stones, and we recommend that you remove these stones before sending.
